I am not sure I agree. Technology has changed a lot so poverty looks different, but it's still here.

Sure, the poor didn't used to have phones or computers. But the poor also didn't have indoor plumbing at one time. I'm presuming you always had that because you lived in a time when it is considered a necessity.

At one time, poor children regularly starved to death, or died of diseases that we have now largely eradicated. I presume none of your family members died of starvation or cholera, because society doesn't let that happen now.

The poor used to live in tenements in which multiple families crammed into a couple of rooms. I'm presuming you didn't ever have to live like that.

I'm old enough to remember WISHING I had a calculator! I couldn't afford one because they were expensive back in the day. Nor did I have a phone at one point; I had to use a payphone, so I wasn't reachable except by letter or physical visit.

You can barely give away a calculator now, and you can get a cellphone for far less than I used to pay for a landline. A computer can be very cheap, and you absolutely need one to exist in society. Everyone should have medical insurance, because without it, you force others to pay if you're hit by a bus or diagnosed with something like cancer.

So yeah. Poverty is different now. Someone 100 years ago would say you were never poor because you had a calculator and a room to yourself -- unimaginable riches to many back then.
