For those wondering if you can approximate this in the US, you can. Look for old neighborhoods platted before WW2. I can easily walk to most places I’d regularly need: municipal services, grocery and pharmacy, post office, bars and restaurants. I have to have a car to get out of town, but in my neighborhood I’m good.
