Fellow newspaper survivor here.

I’ve worked for several publications, primarily newspapers, and never did they ask me to go out selling subscriptions, include a request to subscribe to the paper, or give me a tip at the end of my stories. I am a writer. That’s all I do. I don’t sell subscriptions to Medium. I don’t beg for tips, either. I don’t need them.

I do run the "subscribe" thing, and I have eight people who have joined. But I absolutely DO NOT want to put out the tin cup for tips. Nope. I'm with you there.
