Doctors do not have any idea in hell how a person feels about his or her body. If a woman wants a breast reduction to reduce the pain of overly large breasts, isn't that HER decision? Or do you think the doctor should ignore her pain? If a man wants a nose job because he dislikes his profile, should he be able to decide to have one, or should the doctor tell him nope?
Oxycodone is a red herring. That's not what we are talking about here.
If I had left things up to my doctors, my son would have grown up without his foreskin -- American doctors generally do NOT know best about that.
I've never had a trans child, but I know people who do. This is a real thing, and these kids need someone to listen to them and believe them. Any actual surgery can be held off until the child is older, as the article states. Also, not all trans folks want surgery. Everybody is different. Some just want to align their grooming, dress, name, etc. with the gender they feel like.
