Depends a lot on what place and era you’re talking about, and about whether people required heat in their homes, and whether wheat was available/practical to grow in your area. If you lived in a cold climate, baking worked well because you had to devote resources to a fire anyway. If the world collapsed, we’d all have to go back to eating something closer to the diet the indigenous people in your area — or perhaps early settlers — lived on. It would be nice if every school came up with a curriculum to cover this. The foods eaten by a given society have so much to do with their culture.
