Aren’t we all trying to deliberately have a life different from our childhoods? And aren’t we all surprised when we notice all the ways we’ve failed?
The one good thing I got from my working class childhood is a fear of debt so deep that I’ve rarely had any at all. I also feel deep contempt for status symbols. I am ostentatiously working class, defiantly refusing to follow any trend. It works out because I can’t afford to follow any trends anyway!
