Another is just having IVs available -- a lot of babies died of diarrhea/dehydration. Many of these are simple things. Clean water, safe food and sewage treatment take you pretty darned far.

But those people should go walk through an older graveyard. It's chilling to see so many graves for babies. Sometimes you see a whole row of children who died within a short period, and you know they probably all caught cholera, typhoid or something and died one after the other. How parents ever survived such a thing is completely beyond my comprehension.
