All I ever wanted to do was work at newspapers, shining a light on my community so everyone would know what was going on, what needed changed, what was going well, etc. I was willing to live in poverty to do it. In the end, they got rid of all of us anyway. Now, nobody is doing that work at all, and our democracy is suffering for it. It’s a personal tragedy for me, but it’s a much bigger tragedy for the world.
