All I ever wanted to do from a young age was write. My degree was in journalism, and I loved working at newspapers. I happily worked long hours for very low pay because I believed so strongly that I was serving democracy. When I had kids, I stayed home for a few years and got very into the subjects of pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, parenting, etc. I started a business working with nursing moms, I went to births, I taught classes and ran support groups. When I was ready to return to work, I did a lot of soul-searching. Ultimately I returned to journalism, having no idea newspapers were just a few years from imploding. I should have become a midwife, doula, IBCLC or something of that sort.
