A Strong Defense Requires More Social Spending
Your great-great-grandparents were much stronger than you, and could easily have kicked your ass. We are not in good shape for WWIII.
Until very recently, I felt the U.S. needed to reduce its defense spending.
I don’t feel that way anymore.
The world is changing, and our definition of defense spending must change, too. I think we need to expand our definition of what constitutes spending for national defense.
More social spending must complement our defense spending. We need to understand that we cannot afford to waste human potential.
It was always morally wrong to let some children grow up with insufficient resources and anything less than a solid education. If the moral arguments haven’t been persuasive enough, let us now think about what is facing the world and think pragmatically.
