A male cousin of mine married a Black woman decades ago. When they had their first child, he was handling the admission while she was taken to delivery. The clerk started laughing: “Haha! This paperwork had your wife down as Black!”
The clerk could not conceive of this being the case. My cousin just said, “She is.” That shocked the clerk! But yes, a white man and Black woman were rarely seen together then.
