A friend of mine had grown children from her first marriage but wanted more children with her second husband. By the time they married, her fertility had declined and she underwent a lot of difficult and painful procedures. She decided to "adopt" a frozen embryo, but in the process of preparing things, she and her husband very unexpectedly conceived a baby the old fashioned way. After that baby was born and some time passed, she had the frozen embryo implanted. It seems to have gone very well for all of them. The donor family is in touch and my friend's son will certainly be able to meet them (or maybe already has, I'm not sure). But this is a possibility for some women.
